Last week, Serena (portrayed by Casey Al-Shaqsy) was travelling through the locality and required the toilet, but her activity in the undergrowth alarmed Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), who was experiencing a particularly troubled state of mind.
Charity felt she could rely on Serena and opened up to her regarding Dr. Todd (Caroline Harker) and baby Leyla. Serena proved compassionate and paid close attention to everything Charity revealed.
She subsequently climbed into her vehicle after bidding farewell to Charity and made her way into the village, where she discovered that Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) operates Emmerdale Farm.
Serena has now revealed that she is without a home, residing in her car, and that she shares family ties with the Sugdens, as her grandfather was Robert’s father’s cousin.
During Tuesday’s double episode of the ITV soap (June 30), Serena received an invitation to lodge with Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) after the two formed a connection in The Woolpack.
Nevertheless, the topic of John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) quickly arose in discussion, and Serena acknowledged she had been acquainted with the serial killer, prompting Sarah to become protective, reports the Express.
As fans will know, Robert’s half-brother John killed Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter), left Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) to die, and put his ex-fiancé, Aidan Moore, into a coma due to a so-called hero complex.

In a separate exchange with Claudette Anderson (Flo Wilson), Serena enquired whether she was aware that her former colleague, John, was a killer. “Regardless of that man’s actions, I won’t speak ill of the dead,” Claudette declared.
Serena then probed about John’s character. “Were you good friends? Was he good at his job?” she continued, prompting Claudette to retort: “Why do you want to know?”
“Interesting, finding out your cousin is a legit murderer, I want to fill in the gaps,” Serena clarified. Later on, she reconnected with Robert, who invited her to stay at the farm.
Serena’s curious nature has ignited speculation among viewers who suspect Serena is an undercover journalist seeking information about John and the Sugdens.
Posting on X, one viewer speculated: “Yeahhhh Serena is a journalist, trying to get dirt out of friends and family #Emmerdale”. Another observed: “Serena asking a lot of questions about John… #emmerdale.”

A third chimed in: “There needs to be a John Suggers book for Serena maybe the same person who wanted to write one about John Stape could write it #Emmerdale.”
Over on Reddit, another suggested: “I think Serena is either a journalist/true crime podcaster, a little different than usual, nothing sinister but just a little immoral or she thinks John did something to her mum.

“She’s giving off opportunistic reporter vibes, using her blood relation to the people involved to get a more intimate story. She’s homeless and has mentioned her mother was sick, so money could be a major driving factor,” shared another.
Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX.
