Fans Concerned After Viral Rumors About Monica Raymund(Chicago Fire, Hightown) — Here’s the Truth
NBC Makes a Major One Chicago Schedule Change—Here’s Why Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. Are Disappearing This December
For One Chicago fans, the latest announcement from NBC may not be the holiday surprise they were hoping for.
The network has officially confirmed that there will be no Wednesday night episodes of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, or Chicago P.D. throughout the entire month of December—and that includes reruns. Instead of filling the schedule with encore episodes during the franchise’s winter hiatus, NBC has opted to dedicate Wednesday nights to a lineup of holiday movies and seasonal specials.
Many viewers expected the annual winter break after the fall finales, but few anticipated that the entire One Chicago block would disappear from the schedule until January. Following the November 12 fall finales, fans held out hope that NBC might air classic episodes to help bridge the gap before the shows returned. Unfortunately, the newly released December schedule confirms that won’t be happening.
While the decision may disappoint longtime viewers, it follows NBC’s recent tradition of prioritizing special holiday programming during the busiest weeks of the festive season. Rather than revisiting Firehouse 51, Gaffney Medical Center, or the Intelligence Unit, audiences will find Christmas-themed entertainment taking over Wednesday nights.
The silver lining is that fans don’t have to go without One Chicago completely. Anyone wanting to revisit favorite storylines, catch up on missed episodes, or relive some of the franchise’s biggest moments can still stream both current and previous seasons on Peacock while waiting for the shows’ return in January.
So what exactly will replace One Chicago this December?
NBC’s holiday schedule begins on December 10 with a special network presentation of the holiday action-comedy Red One, featuring an all-star cast including Chris Evans, Dwayne Johnson, J. K. Simmons, Kiernan Shipka, and Lucy Liu.
The following Wednesday, December 17, viewers can enjoy an evening of festive programming featuring Shrek the Halls, A Motown Christmas, Jimmy Fallon’s Holiday Seasoning Spectacular, and NBC 2026 Year in Review Presented by Access Hollywood.
Then, on Christmas Eve, NBC returns with the beloved holiday classic It’s a Wonderful Life, before wrapping up the year on New Year’s Eve with an encore presentation of Wicked: One Wonderful Night followed by the celebratory special A Toast to 2026!.
Although the extended break may feel longer than usual, it won’t last forever. Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. are all scheduled to return with brand-new episodes on January 7, kicking off the second half of the season with fresh storylines, new challenges, and plenty of drama for Firehouse 51, Gaffney Medical Center, and the Intelligence Unit.
Until then, One Chicago fans will have to be patient. While December may be missing its usual dose of rescues, medical emergencies, and police investigations, the countdown to January has officially begun—and expectations for the franchise’s return are already higher than ever.
