‘Chicago Fire’ and ‘Hightown’ Fans Express Concern Following Unconfirmed Reports About Monica Raymund

NBC Delivers Disappointing News for One Chicago Fans: Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. Will Be Absent All December

One Chicago fans, prepare yourselves: NBC has officially confirmed the news many viewers were dreading.

For the entire month of December, there will be no new episodes of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, or Chicago P.D. airing on Wednesday nights. Even more disappointing, NBC has now revealed that there won’t be any reruns of the hit dramas airing during the month either.

That’s right—Firehouse 51, Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, and the Intelligence Unit will all be taking an extended break from NBC’s primetime schedule as the network shifts its focus to holiday programming.

When the One Chicago franchise signed off with its fall finales on November 12, fans immediately began wondering how long the hiatus would last. Although lengthy winter breaks have become a common part of broadcast television scheduling, many viewers hoped NBC would at least fill the gap with encore presentations of fan-favorite episodes.

Unfortunately, NBC’s newly released December schedule has put those hopes to rest.

According to the network’s official lineup, Wednesdays throughout December will be completely devoted to special holiday programming, leaving no room for reruns of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, or Chicago P.D.. While fans suspected this outcome was possible, the confirmation still comes as a major disappointment for viewers accustomed to spending Wednesday nights with their favorite first responders.

The absence of the One Chicago franchise means fans will be facing nearly two full months without new adventures featuring characters such as Stella Kidd, Kelly Severide, Hank Voight, and the dedicated doctors and nurses of Gaffney.

Still, there is a silver lining.

Although NBC will not be airing any reruns on television, fans eager to revisit earlier episodes or catch up on the current seasons before the winter premieres still have plenty of options. Peacock remains the streaming home for both current and previous seasons of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D., allowing viewers to binge classic episodes while waiting for the franchise’s highly anticipated return.

For longtime fans, the break may actually provide the perfect opportunity to revisit some of the franchise’s most memorable moments—from emotional character departures and shocking cliffhangers to unforgettable rescues and high-stakes investigations.

So, what exactly will NBC air instead during December?

The network has assembled an extensive lineup of holiday-themed specials and seasonal programming to occupy Wednesday nights.

On December 10, NBC is scheduled to present a special broadcast of the holiday action-comedy Red One, featuring an all-star cast that includes Chris Evans, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, J.K. Simmons, Kiernan Shipka, and Lucy Liu.

The following week, on December 17, viewers can expect a festive evening filled with holiday favorites, including encore presentations of Shrek the Halls, A Motown Christmas, Jimmy Fallon’s Holiday Seasoning Spectacular, and NBC 2025 Year in Review Presented by Access Hollywood.

As Christmas approaches, NBC will continue the seasonal celebration by airing the beloved holiday classic It’s a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve, offering audiences a chance to revisit one of cinema’s most enduring stories.

The network will then close out the year with New Year’s Eve programming, including an encore presentation of Wicked: One Wonderful Night followed by the annual year-end celebration special, A Toast to 2025!.

While the extended hiatus may feel painful for devoted fans, the wait will not last forever.

NBC is expected to kick off the new year in dramatic fashion when Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. all return with their highly anticipated winter premieres on January 7. Given the major storylines left unresolved in the fall finales, fans can expect an explosive start to the second half of the season.

Until then, One Chicago Wednesdays will simply have to wait.
